Abstract |
The traditional role of publishers has been to collect, refine, and deliver information in print, and more recently in electronic forms. What is the role of publishers in the world of aggregators, Google, blogs, mash-ups, Web 2.0, and now Web 3.0? Are there any profitable business models left for small publishers? And what about the big players like Wolters Kluwer, Thomson and Reed Elsevier? Much of their growth in the past came through acquisitions. Where will they find innovation and growth if there are fewer small to mid-sized publishers to acquire?
This keynote will explore the challenges and changes publishers face in the rapidly changing technology and business landscape and will examine whether content providers will be forced into a supporting role to content delivery and other businesses. |
