Speaker Biographies

David Warwick, Komodo CMS
David is CEO of Komodo CMS, Co-Chair of CM Pros in Australia, Judge for the Melbourne Press Club's Quill Awards and holds an MBA from the Melbourne Business School. David is a regular speaker on content management, web publishing, IT entrepreneurship and digital design.

Rick Jelliffe, Topologi
Rick Jelliffe has hundreds of hours of technical teaching experience, from industry to university. He has been involved in SGML and XML publishing since the late 80s when he co-wrote one of the first mini-SGML processing systems in Japan. He has been Australian delegate to ISO SC34 Office and Document Processing, and an invited expert on internationalisation to the W3C. He has participated in the development of major standards for XML: ISO SGML, W3C XML, W3C XML Namespaces, W3C XML Schemas, W3C XHTML Modularization, IETF MIME Content Types for XML, ISO DSDL, ISO Schematron. He is the author of The XML & SGML Cookbook: Recipes for Structured Information (1998), ISO 19757-3 Rule-based Validation and numerous technical articles. He lead the Chinese XML Now! project at Academia Sinica in Taiwan from 1999. His blog is carried by O'Reilly publishers and syndicated to several sites.

Rick is the CTO of Topologi, a Sydney company that creates tools for XML editing and XML governance. He also regularly consults for Allette Systems for government, military and commercial projects. He is an experienced Java and XSLT programmer, and has produced large websites as well as printed matter.

Nick Carr, Allette Systems
Nick Carr is the founder and general manager of Allette Systems, a 17 year old systems integrator specialising in XML design, training and implementations. Allette Systems has a long history of implementations using standards-oriented markup languages for such organisations as the Australian Stock Exchange, Sun Microsystems and the Singapore Attorney General’s Chambers.

Christophe Lauret, Allette Systems
Christophe Lauret has a master’s degree in IT engineering from French Grande Ecole INSA (National Institute of Applied Sciences). His particular interest is in software design and hypermedia engineering. In his role at Allette Systems, he has gained experience with the design and development of network and web-based applications, database design and software architecture, as well as numerous programming languages.

James Robertson, Step Two Designs
James Robertson is a recognised thought-leader in the field of intranet strategy and web content management. He has presented at conferences throughout Australia, as well as in New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, Denmark, the US and the UK.

James is the managing director of Step Two Designs, a vendor-neutral consultancy based out of Sydney. He has published over 150 articles on intranet and content management topics, as well as being the author of several best-practice reports and resources.

Dale Waldt, aXtive Minds
Dale Waldt is senior consultant at aXtive Minds, leading the design and development of complex structured information solutions. Dale brings 25+ years experience in XML, SGML and web development to challenges in various verticals including medical, regulatory, legislative, pharmaceutical, defense, manufacturing, and commercial publishing. Previously Dale was VP Product Systems in the Thomson Corporation where his team developed solutions for managing complex legal and regulatory information including a web delivery platform which generates more than $70m annual revenue. Dale teaches, writes and speaks widely on XML and related topics and was co-author of The SGML Implementation Guide (1995 Springer Verlag).
